Rebeauty
The Department of Spatial and Sustainable Design at Vienna University of Technology invited Søren Nielsen to share his vast experience within the Rebeauty – Nordic Built Component Reuse project aiming at design for disassembly and reuse in built environment. This summer semester a Design Studio is held focusing on re-use in architecture “rebeauty – design for disassembly and reuse”. A former office building which is going to be demolished is the centre and presents the resource basis of the students` works. Materials will be taken out; analysed and new architectural uses will be developed with the help of 1:1 prototypes and building drafts.
In line with the KATCH_e project, Julia Lindenthal, architect and sustainable housing expert at Austrian Institute of Ecology, presented Circular Economy aspects in Architecture in front of students. Believe it or not, the picture shows a part of the building to be demolished – only after 30 years of use!
Søren is an architect and partner at Vandkunsten Architects, which is a Danish architectural studio with 45 year history based in Copenhagen. Søren is the director of research and development at the office and has great experience and interest in sustainability in the widest sense. Dealing with reusing and repurposing potentials of existing materials within Vandkunsten projects in order to preserve resources is one of his highest priority. Søren is Head of Sustainability at the association of Danish Architecture Firms and member of the board at Green Building Council Denmark.
