INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON NATIONAL CIRCULAR ECONOMY STRATEGIES

HOW TO PROMOTE THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY?
INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON NATIONAL CIRCULAR ECONOMY STRATEGIES
Madrid, March 21, 2018

In 2015, the European Commission designed its Action Plan for the Circular Economy under the slogan “close the circle”. This Action Plan includes a series of legislative proposals on waste to reduce the waste disposal and increase the preparation for its reuse and recycling, as well as an annex with 54 development measures in the areas of production, consumption, management waste, the secondary market of raw materials, and sectoral actions (plastics, food waste, critical raw materials, construction and demolition, and biomass and bioproducts) together with the promotion of R&D&I as a key cross-cutting element in the process of Transition. In turn, the Plan of Action aims to contribute to achieving the SDGs established in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by the United Nations in September 2015 as a new and ambitious plan to respond to global trends and challenges.

At European level, in addition to establishing a concrete and ambitious mandate to support the transition to a circular economy, the Action Plan also seeks a broad and stable commitment from all levels of government (European, Member States, regions and local entities) and of the main social and economic agents.

At present, countries such as Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Scotland and regions such as Flanders have already designed their strategies or circular economy action plans adapting the community framework to their economic, social, natural, productive and energy specificities . In this context, the Spanish government has recently released to public consultation the draft of the Spanish Circular Economy Strategy, “Spain Circular 2030”, which will represent the strategic framework and essential action to facilitate the transition to the circular economy of our country.

This Seminar aims to publicize and discuss these strategies and plans with public administrations, businesses and interested citizens.
