TheCircularLab launches the ‚Circular University Challenge‘ for the development of the circular economy for university students
TheCircularLab, the circular economy innovation centre of Ecoembes, has opened the registration period for its Circular University Challenge, a new initiative aimed at recruiting university students capable of solving challenges related to the development of the circular economy.
The program is aimed at students who are pursuing any degree in the ten universities participating in the project in this edition, and the job is to generate, individually or in teams, innovative solutions that promote the circular economy. It is a propitious scenario for people who think differently and who are able to grow their own ideas or those of their peers. Iberus Campus also participates in this initiative.
Challenges
On this occasion, TheCircularLab presents students with two specific challenges: „How to get citizens to recycle more and better“ and „How to improve the design of packaging so that it is more sustainable, recycled better and incorporates recycled materials“. Students who accept the Circular University Challenge will have the opportunity to receive training in innovation tools, as well as develop working skills in multidisciplinary teams.
The participating universities are: Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona, Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya, Universitat de Lleida, Universidad de A Coruña, Universidad de Sevilla, Universidad Pública de Navarra, Universidad Internacional de la Rioja, Universidad de Zaragoza and Universidad de La Laguna.
Zacarías Torbado, coordinator of TheCircularLab, highlighted that „TheCircularLab is an ecosystem of open innovation, pioneer in Europe, which researches in four lines: packaging of the future, smartwaste (intelligent waste management), citizen science and entrepreneurship. In its first year and a half of life, it has created an entrepreneurial ecosystem of which more than 200 external collaborators and a community of 20 entrepreneurs, selected from more than 150 of the five continents, form part. With this new impulse, we hope to generate new innovation that will allow us to achieve a more sustainable planet.
