20 members of the Sharebox project test a new platform for industrial symbiosis
The Instituto de Tecnología Cerámica (ITC) hosted a practical workshop to present and test the software platform developed by the European project SHAREBOX, with the participation of 20 national and international representatives of companies, research centres and universities.
The SHAREBOX project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme, aims to facilitate the implementation of industrial symbiosis in different industrial clusters, including the Mina industrial area from Nules in Castellón. To this end, an on-line tool is being developed to identify and optimise industrial symbiosis actions; in other words, it favours the sustainable exchange of resources such as water, waste, energy and services between companies from different sectors, with the final goal of reducing production and waste treatment costs. Industrial symbiosis also leads to a reduction in the need for virgin raw materials and to a lower amount of waste disposal in landfills. Therefore, it is key to implement industrial processes that are more respectful of the environment and in accordance with the principles of circular economy.
