Training for Circular Economy in the Construction and Furniture Sectors

The Basque Country, the first European Region that has calculated its own circular economy indicators, following the European Union methodology

The implementation of the circular economy in the companies of the Basque industrial sector would reduce the consumption of raw materials by 6% and would imply an economic saving of 2,000 million euros, according to the report “Assessment of the Circular Economy in the Industry of the Basque Country” presented by the Minister of Environment, Territorial Planning and Housing of the Basque Government. The industrial sectors (steel, foundry, metal products) and mobility (automotive, aeronautical) would account for 49% of these savings.

The presentation of the Assessment was made during a technical conference held at the Kursaal Palace in San Sebastian to more than a hundred representatives of the industry. To carry out this asssessment, the results of the study “Indicators of the circular economy of Euskadi 2018” have been taken into account. The fact is that the Basque Country has been the first European region to gather all the information on this subject following the methodology defined by the European Union.

This is the first positioning exercise in such a vital issue for the preservation of the Environment and sustainability, and it will be the starting point for the preparation of the 2030 Circular Economy Strategy of the Basque Country.
